Now I can finally get back to work and write a post. :)
Things have changed a lot around here in the past few months and in a little less than two weeks we'll move into a one hundred year old converted warehouse with a totally separate retail and studio space. I don't have any plans for more than my normal work and open houses, but something about this move makes me feel extra committed to my work and myself. Having a studio completely separate from the living space feels right.
Mark and I will need to do some adjusting. Our apartment (above the studio) has many charms, (hardwood floors and a nice chunk of green space for a garden) but this is the smallest place we've ever shared. In fact, it's even smaller than the very first apartment we rented together, which was so small and cozy then, but now seems palatial!
We've spent the past year downsizing considerably so you can imagine my surprise today when we took measurements and realized that a good deal of our "essential" furniture isn't going to fit. OK. We'll cope.
One of the charms of the space is that because there are lots of interesting nooks and crannies and since apartments are on the second floor and retail on the first, that leaves a whole third floor for storage and...exploring. The owner has great vision and I'm happy I "get" what she's going for with her investment. Plus, it has a bathtub. When you haven't had one in awhile it really becomes a selling point. Imagine showing an apartment to a prospective renter and hearing her squeal, "Oh my God, it has a tub!!" while she jumps up and down.
Hey, I've become very easy to please.
So, instead of worrying about not having real closets and both bedrooms being a little too small for our bed (?) I'm going to look forward to organic vegetables, planting flowers and waking up and "going to work" in my space.
Alas, the kitchen isn't orange and painting isn't an option, but it is a sunny yellow and there's the much coveted avocado green fridge (?), so I have a good foundation on which to build.
Now, the studio. I can't wait to share pictures. I've been given free reign (or rein-I learned that one is common and one is correct and I believe in covering all bases) to do whatever I want in the space. Painting is job one.
This is the door to the studio...I love what waits behind it!
In other news, I'm proud of myself because I've spent my time away from the blog well. My grandmother has been ill and in spite of a summer spent care-giving I managed to turn out some pretty good work and this feels good. I tend to lose my work focus at the slightest bit of personal drama so even staying "sort of" on track is a big win.
I'll be back in the days to come with news, so thanks for sticking with me and if you ever crave any minute by minute information come on over and join the studio page on facebook...there is a link in the sidebar to the right.
Please ignore some of the "button" link issues...I'm still working on them!
