Please pardon my blogging hiatus, it's been an insane week. I didn't mention anything in my last post, but I was just about to leave for 4 days...my last trip into the woods for the year. I rarely say anything in advance about camping (in case I have any blog stalkers!), but I like to give full reports when I get back.
So, here is my report.
I went camping even though the nights were a solid 28 degrees! Brrrrr! I had five blankets, a sleeping bag, my yoga mat and a sleeping pad. I was good to go! I went through 6 bundles of wood. You know what this means? Yep. That's right folks. I'm a total wood chopping bad ass! Chop-chop!
My site was a hike-in site and huge. In fact it felt scarily large, but that was OK. My food pictures didn't turn out all that well so you'll have to imagine the salmon with roasted potatoes, lentil soup, bacon with pita, feta and herbs and of course, my standard one pot pasta dish.
However, I did try something new. Campfire popcorn in a kettle fashioned out of foil! I can't tell you how good popcorn is by the fire, in the dark on a 28 degree Sunday night. The whole camp smelled great.
I learned that 51 campers left the park Saturday night. It's a big place and on Sunday night...I didn't see a soul.
I was a little lonely come Sunday so I took the time to carve a new friend. Isn't he cute?
This is what mornings looked like...journaling and drinking coffee. Nothing going on but the scent of some distant camper's illegal substance smoke wafting through the woods. I felt very relaxed. :)
They only bear fruit once every 25 years, but I got lucky.
OK, so the trip went well. And then....
Wow. Late at night on my way from connecting with Mark in Chippewa Falls...icy roads and a hit and run by a semi. It was an ugly accident and made only more ugly because the driver of the semi left me and my totaled car before help arrived! My car was stuck and dragged against his wheels until I experienced a miracle and BOOM! I broke free and my car spun out twice and flew into the ditch. The fact that I could not only walk away from it, but run away from it feels like a life changing event. So, that is that. Somewhere out there is a semi driver who must be losing sleep.
So, I am car-less for the moment. But, we are an inspection away from the sale of our condo! With a closing date fast approaching! Positive thoughts people! Positive thoughts!
I will contact those of you who left comments on the last post for your addresses so I can send you your little something-something!
