Preparations for Art Street are underway and with the coaching of my guru friend Christine, I'm trying not to get too uptight. I've decided to take a "go with what I know approach". I'm not bringing as many experimental or new things because well, this summer just hasn't been that kind of season. So, it looks like some of my newer projects may have to be revealed at holiday shows. Christine has me chanting a new mantra..."Less is more...less is more." I'm not a less is more kind of person, but this summer I'm trying to go with it. It's the new me.
I love vintage maps and globes and when I found this desk globe a few months ago I planned to take it off the stand and suspend it with some others from the ceiling in the corner of a room. I was thinking they would look cool at different heights and was waiting to find a few smaller ones to include in the installation before starting. However, last night it occurred to me that it would make a great display if I split it.
So I did.
I plan to line the inside with maps or paint it and the neat part is that I can either hang the halves in my booth with cord (macrame planter style) or use one to support the other to give it some height and it would look great on a table heaped with something (condom cases? packages of magnets? business card cases made from maps?). I have to take care of the inside, but I'm liking this idea and may be splitting a few more globes around here in weeks to come.
I'm really missing the woods and having taken only one camping trip this year, I feel the need to get out there. I've begun some planning and am hoping an October weekend in the woods is in my future.
In the meantime, it's just a mass of business card cases over here. Panels are done and I'm working on assembling them.
Have a great weekend all.
