Here are a few pictures representing some traditions around here....
A birthday dinner made by Mark...which may seem odd to those of you whose husbands/partners like to cook...it's Mark's least favorite activity. It was fantastic...He won't approve public photos, so I had to plead for this back shot...You will note that our kitchen is small and that Mark is tall judging from where his head is in relation to the top of the cabinets and ceiling!
The sauce looks dry, but it wasn't...it's a sweet sauce and has been in Mark's family since their good friend Rosalie gave it to them...it calls for baking soda and vinegar which I find odd, but it does the job!
I made strawberry meringues for dessert...just egg white, cream of tartar and agave whipped until stiff, folded on to parchment and baked at 200 for 3 hours...they got a little brown, but life goes on....they would be even better baked for another hour or two at 180 or 190. My good friend and chef extraordinaire Sherry Fuller was the inspiration for these and hers are never brown.
And of course, speaking of traditions...what would an upcoming show be without me trying to cram two months of work into eight days? When will I ever learn?
Last night Mark came in the studio and looked at the cardholders...(most of them are made from magazine ads pieced together) and he told me I have a good eye. I appreciated his observation because I have to say that I agree! :) And I love making them, so why I stall and end up cramming is beyond me...but, with each fair, I'll get a little better.
OK...a baby shower awaits and then it's back to work.
Have a nice Saturday everyone!
