Tonight I'm making marshmallows and Persian candy...We won't discuss the agave marshmallow catastrophe that happened yesterday. No one needs to hear my description of the texture...well, I can't resist...think of slicing squares of gray jiggly (but creepily spongy) thick flesh off a drowned and bloated body. UGH. I haven't a clue as to what I did wrong...But, it just goes to show me...don't count my chickens before they hatch. I had planned to be a super-hero with my all natural marshmallow drop-off for the staff at the Urban Frog to enjoy today. Oops. Tonight I'm sticking with Martha.
Hopefully there will be some pictures of Little Orange Kitcheny goodness tomorrow. The bad news is that our main kitchen light burned out and I'll be cooking by lamplight-I moved one in from the living room. Neither one of us wants to go on a light bulb run right now.
It makes me wonder how all the women for generations cooked by oil lamp and candlelight. I can imagine many women looking over their gingerbread cookies made late Christmas Eve by the light of the fire and thinking they were perfect only to awaken to the harsh morning light in the cabin and notice they were covered with little flecks of ash from the wood stove.
Really, these women were heroes. I think of how I complain about an overloaded dishwasher and a sink full of dirty dishes and feel shame...I mean, I have a dishwasher for crying out loud. It's not as if I have to go out and gather snow to melt for washing!
Though, I could. We are supposed to get even more snow tonight.
I made bath salts yesterday and the blend is super strong (myrrh, bergamot and vanilla)...it's warming and uplifting and yet...it has an earthiness because of the myrrh and I'm calling it "Dark Night of the Soul" blend. It's to be used when you really feel in crises and are burned out and need to re-establish some connection and goodwill with your inner-self. Have you noticed? I seem to be a little back in action around here? Well, I give partial credit to these salts. I also included a gemstone in each jar.
I also made ponytail holders of the fabric and paper varieties...
My worktables are a complete mess. What? Don't believe me?
p.s. The bath salts are a mixture (it always varies) of sea salt, pink Tibetan salt, Epsom salt, coconut oil, crushed nettle, citric aci, baking soda and essential oils. By the way...if you really want to learn about the benefits of plain old ordinary Epsom salt read this. It explains way better than I can.
